Wear-n-Worn ~kid edition

dang, i love this kid's style!
this is what he wore to go roller skating and bowling.
i hope he always wears what he is comfortable in and what he likes.
august has a gingham shirt like this too.
i need to get a picture of them matchy matchy!

Wear-n-Worn

i love wearing this vintage turquoise blue "house dress" with my red goat clogs.
is it wrong to wear a "house dress" out in public?  or to work?!
i just wear a black slip under it so if it gaps open in between the wide set buttons, no one gets a free show!  haha!
you know why i am smiling, right?
yep, because it has pockets...you guessed!
i am so close to the age where i probably won't wear any dress that doesn't have pockets.  just sayin.  does that mean i am getting old? or wise?  a little of both i'd guess?
you can barely see my strand of red jet glass beads.  i should restring these vintage beauties before they bust out all over the floor cuz that would be sad.
wearing that perfect-for-spring vintage plaid rain jacket again.
with a colorful bold stripe and cotton tassel scarf, nonetheless!
be bold friends!
don't be afraid to mix and match!
wear what makes you happy....this is your chance...go bold!
let em stare while you get away with it!
if it makes you feel good, wear it.  whatever it is, put it on.
and shine, shine, shine your brightest you!

Wear-n-Worn

i found this cute wrap skirt at haystack antiques last month at their third thursdays event.
it looks vintage but i think it is new fabric meant to look old school.  it wraps and snaps.  the lining color is a cross between light turquoise and robbin egg blue.

yes, those are my mother's cowboy boots that she had when i was born!
over 40 years old and they are in great shape and fit me like a glove....one of my favorite things!

the skirt is swingy, comfortable and cute.
what more could i ask for?!

immensely enjoying hunting my equilibrium!,

Wear-n-Worn

i got this little white Libertine shift a couple years ago at target, of all places, when Libertine was the "designer" label of the month, or whatever it is, where the designer pals up with a store and makes a special line for them.  blah, blah, blah....

anyway, i love it but have only worn it a few times because it is short.  i have worn it over jeans and here i am wearing it with grey leggings and clog boots.

the details are the best.  like the pin tucked placket on the front, the tiny rhinestone buttons, the "stripe" of the fabric, and the tiny little pouf sleeve and cuff detail.
it's cotton and easy.
love.

this time i wore it with those new gold snake earrings i adore. and i tried straightening my hair with a....wait for it.....middle part!  yep.  my bangs are growing out and i have been trying the middle part more and more but the side part is my go to.  and boy oh boy is my hair getting curlier with age.  i know its straight-ish here but if i let it, it is like ringlets!  strange...greying and curling.
and yes, that button covered mirror above is the very same one i made in high school, 20 years ago.  we call it the skinny mirror, just try to guess why.  and it does have all those buttons so it's a keeper!

off treasure hunting with Tif and Marjan,
wish us luck!

nothin special.
just wearing august's "faux" glasses.
and that beaded hair clip again.
got somethin in my eye!
comfortable...

this must have been "casual friday!"

except for my fancy beaded bracelets
scored in sayulita, mexico and made by the huichol people
my "go to" boots are about to fall apart since i wear them so much.
i will cry when they are no longer useful.

Wear-n-Worn

it's not like this is a super special outfit or anything.
but it was really comfortable and easy.
i'm wearing a rusty autumn velour floral jacket that i love and have had for ages.  i recently got another very similar to it in nashville but it's in reds and is feathers!  feathers!
these skinny jeans get worn way too much and so do the brown leather clog boots.  but they are so comfy - the boots are like platforms so they just make me tallish and not hurt my feet!

this is one of august's vintage sweater vests that i stole/borrowed.
i love the pattern and the orange and brown colors.
and i love contrasting orange with blue, hence the blue t-shirt. which is a fruit bats concert tee
i get a lot of comments on this belt buckle.
it's a white alabaster ship on a blue background.
i found it digging thru an antique mall in eastern washington and it was $8 so i had to have it to add to my belt buckle collection.
(go figure, she has a belt buckle collection! ha!)
plus, it's a ship. and i am all about the ships folks!
you can see i just wore all the usual suspects: vintage chinese blue glass earrings, bracelet and pendant paired with the beaver and owl necklace.

have i told you the story about this "set" of vintage blue glass?
it is often mistaken for turquoise.
the earrings were a gift from my brother's girlfriend, jamie.  she found them when she worked at an awesome thrift store in jackson hole, wyoming.  the silver funnel-like cap on the top of the blue glass droplet shape has vintage kingfisher feathers glued to it but only tiny bits remain.
anyhow, jamie gave me the earrings and then within the next year during one of our many get away weekends in portland, chad and i found the pendant.  i was floored.  it matched the earrings exactly, with feather encrusted silver funnel-like cap and all.
and it was $9.
clearly that is a major score!
and then also within the year i found the blue glass bracelet, that matches, at a flea market in seattle.
yep.
matchy matchy!
and i wear them all. the. time.

what's in your closet?
dig to the back and try something you haven't seen in a long while.
how does that feel?
fresh? silly? outdated? totally in?
do tell!

Wear-n-Worn

vintage plaid jacket.
like a rain coat, i guess.
my new silver oxfords!
thrifted vintage embroidered green shirt.
love that the shirt came with a belt!
august took these pictures.
i don't think the pants were right with the rest of the outfit but oh well.  they are just grey linen from target a couple years ago.
the silver leather oxfords are super comfy and were only $20 with shipping on ebay.

Wear-n-Worn

i've been wearing this beaded clip more often.

i found the beaded piece a couple years ago and just hand sewed it to a pinch clip so i could wear it in my hair.
and these jingle jangle earrings are getting more wear now that i have been wearing my hair up more.  they get tangled in my hair if it's left down.  they are vintage and i love the colors in them.
the clip and the earrings go really well with this old poncho i dug out of the back of my closet recently.  it is also getting a lot of wear now!
i think the poncho is south american but i am not sure from where exactly.  i picked it up many moons ago at the thrift store.  i am liking wearing it over this embroidered eastern indian type cotton shirt.  this has become my go to outfit on cold grey bleary wet northwest days.  it cheers me up!

what's in the back of your closet?!

Wear-n-Worn

jasper helped with this little photo shoot!
and we used props!
notice the stool and quiver full of arrows!

this wear-n-worn features a little tank style dress printed with mushrooms that i found on the sale rack at anthropologie.  i think its meant to be lounge wear or pajamas.  oh well!

i threw a vintage black slip under it with the intention of having the slip ruffle peek out from under the dress.  and i paired it with my tall black boots that zip up the back and have a ruffle on each side of the zipper, also from anthropologie.
easy outfit and comfortable too.

off to target practice with my bow and arrows!,

Wear-n-Worn ~kids edition

here's my little fellow in his vintage garb.
he loves to dress vintage so we were both excited when i found these pieces, the cheetah sweater vest and plaid wide legs, at an estate sale recently.

we got lucky because all the kid stuff we found fit him perfectly.
we were both thrilled!

i am heading toward portland, or. tomorrow and will shop all along the way there and back.  i hope to find some new treasures for the shop so come by Smashing Rubbish next week to see the new loot.

and a reminder for my awesome Smashing Rubbish customers: i am considering shifting my shop open hours a bit to better fit the pattern of when i will actually have customers :)  so watch for the possibility of being closed on wednesdays (as well as our traditional mondays and tuesdays) and being open 12-5 on thursdays, fridays, saturdays and sundays (instead of 12-6 thur-sat).  if you have any input about this i would greatly appreciate hearing about it!  Don't be shy!  the shift in days and hours is being considered because i hardly have any customers on wednesdays and rarely have customers in the last hour between 5 and 6pm.  having wednesday to be creative in my studio and being home for dinner with my family will make a big difference to me personally so i am considering this probable change.  not sure how soon yet, or when, but i will certainly make every effort to keep my hours posted and current to keep you aware and abreast.
thank you for all your support SR customers!  you make it so i can stay in business here in duvall!  thanks!

Wear-n-Worn

love this prim and proper dress i found at an estate sale recently.
the turquoise and gold beaded necklace make it a little fancy.
and the belt.....i love the belt.

i had to sass it up a bit by wearing knee highs and tall boots

and then to make it saucy.... the fur leopard print coat was added.

gotta have a little sauce now and then if you want to keep things spicy!

What do you like to wear to dress up?  Vintage?  Modern?  Classic?

Do tell....

Triangles: Wear-n-Worn

when i was in Nashville at the end of october i scored some really awesome vintage clothing.  i decided to sell a few of the pieces in the shop but the rest i have kept for myself, including this awesome vintage dress that has a really modern "blasting triangles" design all over it.

perhaps it's from the 70s.  it is polyester after all.

it's not easy to tell, but it buttons from the waist up, off center, and can be buttoned up for a very high neck.  i wear it with the top button undone so it flops open a little.

you can see i am also wearing an old vintage velvet jacket that i have had forever-and-a-day.  i forgot it was in the back of my closet but have now been wearing it again lately.

the velvet swing jacket just has one cool old original button at the top but i didn't get a good photo of it.  the vintage red glass beads add another pop of color and matched my tights.

i am finally giving in to doing regular outfit posts.  i have been taking photos of my outfits for a while now as a way to document what i have and sell, and also i like to dress up a bit and until opening the shop never had much of a reason too.  so now i want to keep track of what i wear, or have worn, and too, i did take that amazingly awesome self portraiture class last winter called You Are Your Own Muse.  so i am taking some self portraits, capturing mostly vintage outfits, and making a record of "wear-n-worn."

i have felt conflicted in the past, posting outfit pictures.  like, who cares.  but this is my blog, i love vintage clothes and fashion in general, i sell this stuff, and, well, like i said, this is my blog and if you don't like it, you don't have to look!

and then, too, there are the little coincidences and serendipity's in life and i don't like to let those go unnoticed!  when i got home from Nashville and was flipping thru my fall issue of Uppercase,

which, by the way, you should all be subscribing too, (let me just should on you all for a moment!,

there, of course, was a spread on the triangle!  it turns out triangles are quite the "in" design motif at the moment.  all the rage.  who knew?!  maybe they were "in" in the 70s too!

shop news:  i wanted to let you all know i will be having a sale starting next Wednesday, January 11.

the sale will be 20% off anything you can sit on!

yes, that's right.  all chairs, chair frames, stools, seats, and benches will be 20% off!

i will have other random and assorted items on sale each day as well but you have to stop by to find out what the sale of the day is!  or you can go over to Facebook and "like" the Smashing Rubbish page to find out!  i will post daily sales, each day next week, on the Smashing Rubbish Facebook page and i will "tweet" them as well so feel free to follow the shop on Twitter too!

i am trying to make room for some new merchandise as i will be going on a buying trip the first weekend in february and hope to have many new items to bring in for you to peruse!

stay tuned and thanks for your ongoing support!
