The Listeners & These Train Tracks

our friends, Breathe Owl Breathe, sent us their new hard bound children's book back in September!

one side is the story/song The Listeners (or The Mole & The Ostrich).

see the paper band going around the book?  the inside of it is printed with the names (including ours!) of all the folks who supported this book project, at a certain level on their kickstarter campaign, Something for the Kidz, so that the book could get made.

remember this post?
it's about Breathe Owl Breathe playing an amazing outdoor show, on our backyard stage, because of the support we gave them, through kickstarter, for this particular book project they were trying to raise funds for.

the other side is the story/song, These Train Tracks!

yeah, so, since we contributed at the top level, we got to have a house concert, a sleepover, handmade screenprinted capes, the book, and other perks as well!  It's one of the best investments we have ever made!  And it's an investment we have got the best return on!

please support artists you love!  and if they have a kickstarter campaign going, support it however you can!  our friends needed our help and we were more than happy to oblige!  we feel we got the best deal of all and feel so fortunate to have been able to share the love with our local friends too when they got to see Breathe Owl Breathe, live, in our backyard!
So now it's time for you to buy this book
You will get more than you give!
and don't wait!  it is a limited edition!

two awesome story/songs in one gorgeous little book!

all the prints in the book are from original woodcuts carved by our friend Micah Middaugh, who wrote and illustrated both stories.

these are some of my favorite pages from The Listeners.

and these are some of my favorite pages from These Train Tracks

and it is not just a book you will have,

in your hands,

when you order your own copy.

you'll have a 7 inch record too!

with a story/song on each side!

that's right!   this sweet little book comes with lovely story/song to read, beautiful art to gaze upon and adore, and vinyl to listen to so the good message comes through loud and clear!   lucky us!!

i don't want to give too much away because it's truly such a treat to have your own experience with the book, music, stories and songs.

did you listen to books on album when you were young?  we did.  there would always be a ding or a bell sound, so you would know when to turn the page.  the album for this book doesn't do that because it's songs really, not a spoken story, that you will be enchanted by when listening.  you will love it!

buy the book here!

wrapping, wrapping, wrapping,

p.s. i am looking into getting a few copies to have for sale here at Smashing Rubbish so check in with me if you are interested!

Hello Out There!

doesn't that look like a picture of trees in the Fireball?!  it was the actual scene outside my door over memorial day weekend!

heeeellllloooooo friends!!!

long time no see!

well, i don't have much to report other than BREATHE OWL BREATHE will be playing on my backyard stage on saturday AND staying the night!!!

no, not much.  just a little little thing.

NOT!

woohoooooo!!

yes, it is true!  we supported a Kickstarter project; kids book and record project that b.o.b. is creating and so we get to have them stay overnight and play for all our friends and family!  yep!  pretty cool, huh?!

so needless to say i have been running around, breathless, with my head spinning in circles, readying like a bat out of hell!  it's all good!  I just like to have things a certain way; beautiful, preferably with a theme, well organized, and, ya know, like, all put together!  and if its not that way, i kinda panic :)  It'll all work out, right?  No one is going to fire me for having weeds in my garden and serving donuts instead of cake.  right?!

i have also had some REALLY BIG plans underway that will make for some major huge changes around here.  I will share this all with you soon but in the meantime think: brick. and. mortar (!!!)

so, i've been a tad busy and i am glad you are still here checking in on me!  thanks!

ok then friends.  i gotta go to bed.  right after i sew another Fireball cushion cover and glue another fake mustache to a stick!

smooches,

The Head and the Heart - Down in the Valley (Live at the Mural)

Here is a mellow version of this song from when they did a free show at the Mural in Seattle.  I was not at this show but I did get to see them busking at The No Depression Music Festival this summer and they just opened for Vampire Weekend which I took Gus to see last week.  Both The Head and The Heart as well as Vampire Weekend were amazing!  I had never been to a show at the Paramount that was general admission and I have been to a lot of shows there.  It was so great to get to stand up and dance and shake my booty the whole time.
These guys are fabulous!  Plus Charity plays the violin and y'all know how I play/dabble (in) fiddle so I like to see girl violin players, especially in roots, americana, folky-pop music.
Their CD has been playing over and over and over again in my car.  Not because I am too lazy to switch the CD but because I LOVE them.  These are the kind of songs you can belt out at the top of your lungs!  Its SOOO Good!  And my kids like it too.
And they are local!  If you listen to KEXP, like we do, then you have probably already heard of them.  Lucky You!

They have a few local shows coming up in October and November so check them out if you can.  I will be going to the November show since in October they are playing the exact same night as Breathe Owl Breathe and I have had tickets for that for a LOOOOOONG time!I wish I could add every video of every one of Head and Heart's songs here but since I cant you can go over to youtube and check them out.  They did a live in studio for KEXP and all those are super good.  Especially Ghost, which has a great few lines, "One day we'll all be ghosts, trippin around in someone elses home.  One day we'll all be ghosts, ghosts, ghosts.  One day we'll all be found, no longer lost just hanging around.  One day we'll all be found, found, found."

So I hope you have a happy little weekend!  See you back on Monday with wool pants, more bags, a look at my lovely new antique mall space, etc.
Until then, smooches,
xoxo
